Job Summary

The role of the Game Narrative Intern is to support the narrative and design teams in developing and refining the story and written content for Agents of Influence. This includes editing game scripts, writing in-game text, and preparing narrative materials for production. The intern will also assist in creating educational and narrative-aligned supplemental materials, and contribute to projects that connect story with social media and classroom engagement. This role offers a unique opportunity to explore the intersection of storytelling, education, and interactive media. Application Deadline: August 15, 2025

About the Company & Project

We are Alterea Inc., an experience design company based in Los Angeles, CA. Through live and digital mediums we create experiences that draw on historical research and emerging art forms to explore and highlight participant agency. Our core team met as undergraduates at the University of Southern California designing experiences that combined immersive theater and interactive gaming.


 

Agents of Influence is an in-development educational video game that teaches students critical media literacy skills such as research, analysis, and effective conversation. We are seeking a Game Narrative Intern to join our team and contribute to the storytelling and educational impact of Agents of Influence. We’re looking for someone who is creative, detail-oriented, collaborative, and passionate about the power of narrative in games. This person will gain hands-on experience editing scripts, crafting in-game text, and supporting narrative work that bridges gameplay, education, and social impact. They’ll also get a behind-the-scenes look at how story and learning design come together in a mission-driven startup environment.

This is a part-time, remote, unpaid internship with the potential for increased responsibility and compensation based on performance.

Location and Work Environment

This is a fully remote position, allowing you the flexibility to work from home or another suitable location. To succeed in this role, you’ll need:

  • Reliable Internet Connection: A stable high-speed internet connection (minimum 20 Mbps) is required for video conferencing and accessing company tools.
  • Equipment: You should have access to a reliable computer with a webcam and a headset. If needed, the company can provide additional equipment to support your work.
  • Workspace: A quiet, distraction-free workspace is essential for meetings and focused work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and edit game scripts to ensure narrative clarity, tone consistency, and alignment with game mechanics
  • Write in-game text for features such as tooltips, objectives, dialogue choices, and feedback messages
  • Help transform narrative documents into production-ready formats, including clean formatting, naming conventions, and developer notes
  • Support the education team with narrative-driven supplemental materials (e.g., teacher guides, game-based worksheets)
  • Contribute to cross-functional projects that bridge storytelling and educational goals
  • Collaborate on social media campaigns that align with the game’s characters, storylines, and tone
  • Coordinate with narrative, design, and production teams to maintain narrative cohesion
  • Provide feedback on story structure, dialogue, and content pacing during development

     

Qualifications

  • Strong writing and editing skills, especially in dialogue or interactive storytelling
  • Attention to detail, organization, and consistency in both narrative and formatting
  • Interest in educational games, social impact storytelling, and immersive learning experiences
  • Comfortable working with Google Docs, collaborative writing tools, and production pipelines
  • Ability to take initiative and communicate effectively on a remote team
  • Bonus: Experience writing for games, fanfiction, or screenwriting
  • Bonus: Familiarity with Unity or branching dialogue tools (e.g., Twine, Ink)
  • Bonus: Interest in social media, transmedia storytelling, or edutainment content

  • Work in a timely fashion to meet deadlines and support team projects.
  • Adapt to new tasks and responsibilities as needed, demonstrating flexibility and a willingness to learn.


 

Compensation and Benefits

This is an unpaid internship. There is potential to grow into a paid role.
