Environmental Protection Dispatcher

The State of Connecticut, Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) is seeking to fill two (2) Environmental Protection Dispatcher vacancies within the Environmental Conservation Police (EnCon) Division of the Bureau of Outdoor Recreation. These positions are located in Hartford, Connecticut.

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS

The Bureau of Outdoor Recreation is made up of three Divisions (Parks, Environmental Conservation Police, and Boating). The mission of the State Environmental Conservation Police (EnCon) Division is to provide natural resource protection and public safety through education, outreach and enforcement.

EnCon is seeking to hire two Environmental Protection Dispatchers. The Emergency Dispatch Center is a 24 hour, 7-day a week operation responsible for providing a communication link between operations within the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, other public safety agencies and the public. The available shifts for these permanent, full-time positions are:

  • Second shift, Thursday through Monday, 3:00pm - 11:00 pm and;
  • Third shift on Weekends (Friday 11:30pm to Saturday 7:30am) & (Saturday 11:30pm to Sunday 7:30am) then second shift Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday = (3:30pm-11:30pm each day)

Successful candidates will have the ability to:

  • Calm individuals in crisis;
  • Make split second decisions;
  • Gather and disseminate information clearly, accurately and rapidly in urgent situations;
  • Multi-task between the telephone, radio and various computer systems in stressful situations;
  • Maintain composure and function under the stress of an emergency situation;
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others;
  • Read and speak English in a clear and effective tone of voice;
  • Hear clearly and discern a variety of audible communications and signals simultaneously;
  • Understand and be knowledgeable with computers, typing, data input and be comfortable with using technology.

The Bureaus of Outdoor Recreation and Natural Resources lead the agency’s outdoor recreation efforts by acquiring and managing lands with an eye toward providing public use that is compatible with long term protection of natural resources.
