2025-26 West Ky Community and Technical College Student Success Center Tutor

Position Title: AmeriCorps Kentucky College Coach – West Kentucky Community & Technical College Academic Support Staff Tutor

Location: Paducah, KY

Service Term: Full-Time (FT) Term of Service, ASAP to July 31, 2026 (Service can be renewed for up to 4 terms.)

Hours: 37.5 hours/week, Monday-Friday (some evenings may be required)

Living Allowance/Pay: $1810 per month in living allowance, less FICA and other applicable taxes. (Income is excluded from SNAP, KY Medicaid, and Section 8)

Benefits: Healthcare and childcare eligibility, federal student loan forbearance eligibility, professional development, and an education award of $1459.26 - $6,895 upon completing service (depending on the number of months of service). WKCTC will provide a parking pass.

Eligibility Requirements: Members must be at least 17 years old and a U.S. Citizen, U.S. national, or legal permanent resident alien. Must be able to pass a National Service Criminal History Check.

Minimum Qualifications: Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s degree (required)

Position Description:

The Student Success Center (SSC) Academic Support Staff Tutor provides academic support to students in various formats. Tutor will conduct study (tutoring) sessions in one-on-one or small group settings in person, online, and/or at off-site locations as scheduled. Sessions can be either on-demand (walk in) or by appointment. Tutors are responsible for tracking all tutoring sessions utilizing the software platform provided. As part of the Student Success Center team, tutors will positively contribute to the SSC atmosphere by greeting and connecting students to needed resources, particularly tutoring but not limited to tutoring; therefore, knowledge of the campus and the SSC is important. The Student Success Center’s mission is to provide academic supports to students and collaborate with other WKCTC retention initiatives on campus to empower students as they pursue and achieve their academic goals. Responsibilities: Academic Support Staff Tutors have routine and non-routine duties that include but are not limited to:

  • Work effectively as SSC team member to advance student success and services within the SSC.
  • Effectively tutor students following training guidelines.
  • Collaborate with faculty to provide effective academic support.
  • Contact students based on tutoring referrals to schedule sessions with a friendly and welcoming demeanor.
  • Successfully complete training and attend meetings.
  • Maintain the tutoring space by cleaning and organizing to ensure a welcoming, learning conducive environment.
  • Market SSC academic support services.
  • Collaborate with Academic Support Coordinator, Success Coaches, Supplemental Instruction Leaders, SSC Department Assistant, and the SSC Director to advance academic support.

Reporting Requirements: Members are required to submit monthly activity reports to help measure impact as well as bi-weekly time sheets.

Desired Skills and Characteristics:

  • Associate degree with demonstrated academic strength in one or more general education area.
  • Preference given to applicants with demonstrated strong background in STEM/mathematics.
  • Experience in volunteer service and/or working with the community.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Skill in supporting learning for students individually and in-groups.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with coworkers, students, parents, faculty, and staff.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Skill with word processing and spreadsheet computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Familiarity with Pearson and/or Hawkes learning platforms.
