Inverter Modeling and Hardware Testbed Experiments Student Engineer
This is an internship position for a student to support an R&D project related to the development of a hardware testbed with programmable inverters.
Looking for a student who can work in the 2025 fall semester/quarter (August-December). Based in Knoxville, TN.
The student will support the EPRI team by:
- a) developing grid forming (GFM) and grid following (GFL) inverter models in electromagnetic transients (EMT) simulation tools
- b) programming inverter microcontrollers c) conducting laboratory experiments on a hardware testbed
Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering required
- 2 years of PhD studies (preferred)
Ideal Candidate:
- Electrical engineering Ph.D student with emphasis on power systems
- Strong experience with inverter controls
- Strong experience with microcontroller programming (preferably Texas Instruments C2000)
- Strong experience with electromagnetic transients simulation tools (preferably PSCAD and Simulink)
- Strong programming skills (preferably Python and Matlab)
