
2026 Capital Markets Summer Intern - Leveraged Finance
What you’ll do
Our 10-week paid internship will provide you with the foundation to become a financial market specialist while working in a dynamic and supportive team environment. You will receive accelerated learning and skill development through a mix of on-the-job training, mentorship, a community of peers and advisors, and a pathway to our full-time Capital Markets Development Program upon graduation.
Leveraged Finance (Lev Fin) Role:
US Bancorp’s Leveraged Finance Group (Lev Fin) specializes in the origination, structuring and syndication of pro rata credit facilities, institutional term loans and corporate bonds for non-Investment-Grade companies. Transactions finance a wide array of client needs, such as acquisitions and leveraged buyouts, capital expenditures, growth projects, liability management exercises, refinancings and recapitalizations. The Lev Fin group covers clients across multiple industries and sectors, in alignment with ICG and GIS banking coverage.
Client coverage is focused on leading capital markets transactions, with tailored corporate finance advice, capital structure recommendations, regular market updates and transaction execution guidance to Chief Financial Officers, Corporate Treasurers and related Treasury staff.
Incoming Lev Fin interns will join a lean, collegial, and collaborative team with a clear focus on driving growth and fee revenue for non-Investment-Grade clients. Analysts work directly with junior and senior team members who share in their professional development and intend to promote advancement within the group.
Roles and Responsibilities
Lev Fin Analysts directly support junior and senior professionals in their client coverage and deal execution efforts:
Assist in deal preparations and execution (e.g. market and deal process updates, investor marketing, due diligence, documentation/filings, sales team memos, investor and orderbook analysis, credit approval)
Analyze macroeconomic, interest rate and capital market conditions
Perform credit, sector, comparable company and relative value analyses
Create tailored presentation materials used in client pitches
Compose written market update summaries for clients and weekly internal distributions
Run models to determine the financial impact of potential capital structures
Regularly collaborate with both external and internal deal team members, including issuing clients, peers across the industry, as well as our public side sales & trading partners

Basic qualifications:
Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Math, or a related field with a target graduation of December 2026 or spring 2027
Ability to start the internship program on June 1, 2026
Preferred qualifications:
Demonstrated performance in prior position(s)
Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
Demonstrated understanding of the economy, capital markets and financial statement analysis
Financial modeling, analytical and strategic thinking skills
Exceptional work ethic and attention to detail
High levels of personal motivation and intellectual capacity
Comfort functioning both independently and as part of a team
Ability and desire to work in an exciting, fast-paced environment
Capacity to multi-task under stress and manage time efficiently

Working model and hours:
This role is hybrid. Interns who are in a hybrid role typically spend three days a week at the listed U.S. Bank location(s), while having flexibility on their work location for the other working days. Interns work approximately 40-hours each week during the internship.
