Walker West Music Academy is a vibrant music school for students of all ages, from 5-year-olds to adults. We offer affordable, accessible, high-quality instruction in all genres of music with a special emphasis on jazz, gospel, and improvisational music. Founded by African American musicians, Walker West is believed to be the oldest community music school of its kind in the nation. Wages and Benefits

$30.00 per hour; Competitive health, dental, and vision insurance; Health Savings Account (HSA), and options for Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA); Earned Sick and Safe Time (ESST) as legally required.

 

A Typical Day in the Life…

A typical day as Walker West’s Finance Manager provides an opportunity to lead our financial planning and analysis efforts. In this role, you will be instrumental in ensuring the financial health and strategic growth of our organization. Responsibilities will include the following:

  • Partnering with our outsourced nonprofit financial consultant to develop and implement robust financial strategies.
  • Leading the annual budgeting process and collaborating with various departments to create comprehensive and accurate financial plans.
  • Developing and maintaining quarterly financial forecasts and identifying key trends, potential risks, or opportunities.
  • Overseeing the month-end close process, ensuring accuracy and timely completion of all financial reporting.
  • Collaborating effectively with the 501 team and contributing to a cohesive and efficient operational environment.
  • Managing treasury functions, including cash flow monitoring and optimization.
  • Coordinating and supporting the annual audit process, ensuring compliance and providing necessary documentation.
  • Overseeing organizational insurance policies and contributing to risk management strategies to safeguard assets.
  • Developing, implementing, and monitoring internal financial controls to ensure accuracy and prevent fraud.
  • Managing daily financial activities including billing, vendor invoicing, and bank account management (specifically with 21st Century Bank).

 

Who You Are

  • You hold a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
  • You have demonstrated experience in financial planning and analysis, preferably within a nonprofit environment.
  • You demonstrate a strong understanding of budgeting, forecasting, and month-end close processes.
  • You have previous experience with treasury functions, annual audits, and internal controls.
  • You possess excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • You have the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • You are proficient in financial software and Microsoft Excel.
  • You have a valid driver’s license, access to reliable transportation, and the ability to meet Walker West’s driving record requirements. Please note that if the license was not issued in the state of Minnesota, you have 60 days after becoming a Minnesota resident in which to apply for your Minnesota driver's license or permit (not applicable for new hires living out of state).
