Business and People Operations Generalist

17a

We’re looking for a business & people operations generalist to join our small, entrepreneurial team. This role is equal parts people champion and ops builder: you’ll manage the full employee lifecycle, keep our internal operations humming, and step in wherever the team needs extra leverage.

You’ll be at the center of our organization — ensuring smooth day-to-day operations, designing systems for scale, and supporting the team so we can deliver high-impact work for our partners.

Responsibilities

People Operations

  • Oversee and manage the full employee lifecycle — recruitment, onboarding, development, and offboarding.
  • Administer payroll and benefits, including enrollments and changes.
  • Communicate HR policies, procedures, laws, and standards to employees; partner with leadership on HR compliance.
  • Lead logistics and planning for team development, retreats, and offsites.
  • Collect and analyze HR data to identify trends and areas for improvement.

Business Operations

  • Build and manage operational systems for finance tracking, vendor/contracts, knowledge management, and compliance.
  • Support budgeting, financial reporting, and project resourcing alongside leadership.
  • Lead special projects to pilot new tools, refine workflows, and improve cross-team collaboration.
  • Anticipate needs and provide team support — from handling day-to-day details to solving unexpected problems.
  • Ensure that operational policies, systems, and tools are well-communicated and easy to use across the team.

Skills & Experience

  • 4–5 years of professional experience in operations, consulting, HR/people ops, or startups.
  • Strong generalist skill set: comfortable with spreadsheets, project management software, and new tools.
  • Experience with payroll, benefits, and employee lifecycle processes.
  • Excellent communicator with strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Thrives in a startup-like environment: resourceful, adaptable, and energized by building new systems.
  • Collaborative mindset and excitement about joining a small, mission-driven, tight-knit team.
