Transportation Co-Op - Statewide
Obtain real-world experience while earning your degree through the West Virginia Department of Transportation’s (WVDOT) Co-Op Program. The WVDOT Co-Op opportunities offer college students hands-on experience across diverse career fields—from engineering and finance to IT and environmental resources. Here, you won’t just explore your future career—you’ll experience it. Through meaningful projects that go beyond the classroom, you’ll gain skills and insights that last a lifetime.
A WVDOT Co-Op is a temporary full-time role and does not include retirement benefits, insurance, paid leave, or cost-of-living increases. You’ll gain full-time experience while still in school! Students can work up to 1,000 hours per year, with pay based on your completed credit hours and prior co-op experience.
Be sure to include your current transcript when applying and a copy of your valid driver's license.
As a WVDOT Co-Op, you’ll gain real experience tailored to your career path:
Engineering: Get hands-on at construction sites, calculate material needs, review project data, and join field inspections—preparing you for a strong start as an entry-level engineer.
Accounting: Build financial skills by posting transactions, tracking funds, reviewing records, making journal entries, and assisting with audits.
Information Technology (IT): Work with programming languages like Visual Basic .NET, C#, and JavaScript; manage databases; and support or design engineering systems and applications.
Environmental Programs: Contribute to projects in stormwater management, building and asbestos inspections, GIS mapping, FEMA coordination, and underground storage tank monitoring.
No matter your path, you’ll go beyond the classroom with projects that make a real impact.
