Legal Intern

This is a unique opportunity for a law student or a recent graduate to gain hands-on experience in the legal aspects of building a health technology startup. The legal intern will work directly with the founder(s) to develop and organize the company's legal documentation and guidelines. This role is perfect for someone with an interest in business law, intellectual property, and the unique legal challenges facing the healthcare and technology sectors. Please note that this is an unpaid internship, offered for academic credit and/or valuable professional experience. We will work with your educational institution to ensure you receive any available credit for your work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Legal Research: Conduct legal research on topics relevant to a health technology startup, including but not limited to:
  • Wyoming business law and startup regulations.
  • Healthcare-specific regulations such as HIPAA, the Anti-Kickback Statute, and the Stark Law.
  • Data privacy and security laws (e.g., CCPA, GDPR) as they apply to a health-focused company.
  • Intellectual property law, including patents, trademarks, and copyrights.
  • Document Drafting and Review: Assist in the drafting, review, and organization of essential company documents, such as:
  • Corporate governance documents (e.g., bylaws, operating agreements).
  • Standardized employment and contractor agreements.
  • Non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) and confidentiality agreements.
  • Website and app terms of service, privacy policies, and end-user license agreements (EULAs).
  • Compliance and Risk Management: Help develop internal guidelines and documentation to ensure the company operates in a legally compliant manner, from hiring to product development.
  • Administrative Support: Provide general administrative support to the legal and operations team, including organizing and maintaining legal files and documentation.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in or a recent graduate of an accredited Juris Doctor (J.D.) program.
  • Strong academic record and a demonstrated interest in corporate law, intellectual property, or health law.
  • Excellent legal research and writing skills.
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
  • Proficiency with legal research databases (e.g., LexisNexis, Westlaw) is a plus.
  • Experience with or a strong interest in startups and the technology/healthcare industry is highly desirable.
