Firmware Design BS/MS EE/CE

Keysight Technologies, the world's largest test and measurement equipment manufacturer, has an outstanding research and development full-time position available for an electrical engineer or computer engineer to work in Keysight’s Budd Lake NJ office. 

The Budd Lake NJ site is primarily devoted to the design, manufacture, and marketing of Keysight’s power supply solutions. These products range from multi-kilowatt switching supplies, AC sources, 30kW regenerative power solutions, solar array simulators, to AC grid emulators up to 1MW in power. 

The ideal candidate will have a strong interest and skill set in firmware design working in a collaborative R&D environment consisting of hardware, FPGA, and firmware designers.  Skills in the area of Linux development, C++ and scripting languages along with basic knowledge of discrete time systems theory and digital design are ideal.  Exposure to power electronics is desirable but not required. 

Qualifications include:

  • Strong experience with the Linux operating system and embedded Linux development. 
  • Strong C/C++ programming skills. Be able to create code that is clear, efficient, maintainable, and well documented. C++ OOP embedded development experience is a great plus.
  • Experience in multi-threaded and/or embedded systems programming and debugging. 
  • The ability to work within an existing code base and adapt to its style.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and effectively communicate ideas, issues and solutions.
  • Experience with build systems and integrating them with CI/CD pipelines.
  • Computer networking knowledge and experience with sniffing and diagnosing networking issues.
  • Familiarity with Agile software development.
  • Understanding of secure software principles and practices 

 

Highly desirable skills include:

  • Experience with communication protocols (USB, SPI, I2C, UART).
  • Understanding of electrical fundamentals and electronic instrumentation.
  • Familiarity with power supplies and electronic measurement devices.
  • Experience with and an understanding of GIT.
  • Exposure to customizing embedded Linux distributions with tools such as Yocto/Buildroot. U-Boot customization is a plus.
  • Exposure to HDL design, Xilinx and Altera Cyclone tool chains and SystemVerilog
  • Experience with coding, simulating, testing, and debugging HDL designs 
  • FPGA digital signal processing and feedback control system experience
