Position Overview:
As a Fuel Performance Intern, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic and collaborative environment. You will work closely with our engineering team to support the design, development, and testing of computational nuclear multiphysics software. This internship is designed to provide you with valuable industry knowledge and practical skills that will enhance your career in nuclear engineering.
Location:
The position will be located in Lynchburg, VA at the Advanced Technologies Office.
Your Day to Day as a Fuel Performance Intern:
- Assist in advancing TRISO fuel performance evaluation model(s).
- Support the development of methodologies for TRISO source term modeling.
- Advance modified TRISO particle and fuel form modeling capability.
- Mature fuel design safety case basis.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure project success.
- Prepare technical reports and documentation.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to project discussions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Must be currently pursuing a master’s degree or Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering or a related field.
- Must be proficient or have experience with BISON or the MOOSE finite element framework.
- Must be familiar with FEA model development.
- Must be proficient in the Python programming language.
- Must have strong technical writing skills.
- Must have excellent problem-solving skills and strong attention to detail.
- Must have strong communication and teamwork abilities.
- Must be self-motivated and eager to learn.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with TRISO or other nuclear fuel system is a plus.
- Experience with Cubit/ ParaView is a plus.
