Generation Support Internship
If you love solving problems, looking at data and exploring new methods of technology – this is the position for you!
You will be introduced to all types of power generation technologies including solar, wind, battery storage, and natural gas. We work closely with our field technicians and operators to turn difficult problems into easy solutions using data analytics and software. We are looking for a candidate that enjoys interpreting regulations, problem solving, and exploring new technologies including PowerBI and Tableau to support compliance data management and communication. This position will support NERC Reliability Standards compliance, and you’ll learn how daily tasks throughout the company help keep the lights on and maintain a reliable power grid.
Other duties may include creating and maintaining data visualizations for maintenance, operations, training, accounting, and other areas within Southern Power to support business process. We want to further utilize analytics to work with all team members and turn data into visualizations to drive better decisions. We also want to look for ways to utilize and implement Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence into Southern Power’s maintenance and compliance strategy
- Desired Degrees (in-progress) include: engineering, data science, or comparable; electrical engineering (preferred)
- Experience in PowerBI or Tableau is preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products required (TEAMS, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Ability to build and maintain professional working relationships with internal and external teams
- Ability to prioritize and organize work to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
- Excellent analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills required
- Strong oral and written communications skills required
- Experience in organizing and managing multiple projects at the same time.
- Positive team player, flexible to changing priorities, and seeks opportunities for process improvement
- GPA Requirement of 3.0.
This position will be located in Birmingham, AL at the Energy Center with an expected full-time work schedule of 40 hrs/ week.
