Communications Internship - Summer 2026

2026 Program Information

Duquesne Light Company offers summer internships that provide a hands-on, meaningful employment opportunity in a supportive setting that cultivates learning and collaboration.  Duquesne Light’s internship program will provide you with a valuable experience and a solid start to your career in various disciplines.

  • Internships are full-time (40 hours/week), paid, and run for 12 weeks (May-August).
  • Internships are located in Pittsburgh and follow DLH’s Hybrid Work Model (described below).
  • Candidates must be full-time, degree-seeking students enrolled in an accredited college or university and have completed their Sophomore year of studies.
  • Candidates must have at least one semester remaining after completion of the internship/must not have graduated prior to the internship starting.
  • Candidates must be in good academic standing.
  • Candidates must be willing to work the required schedule as defined in the job description.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability through studies, employment or extracurricular activities.
  • Aptitude for problem solving; strong communication skills.

 

Overall Purpose:

Duquesne Light provides a critical service to our community by keeping the lights on for our neighbors, hospitals, businesses and more. Our customers are important to us, and the Communications and Corporate Responsibility department provides the essential connection to our employees, communities and customers. This connection enables the company to bring our service to the next level. By leveraging our community relationships, the team makes it easier for DLC to perform essential work every day.  

Made up of three groups, the department helps bring the bigger picture of the company’s role as an electric utility together as it relates to our external stakeholders: Communications, Corporate Responsibility and Brand.

Education/Experience:

Applicants must currently be enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master's degree program concentrating on Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Creative Writing, or Advertisting/Marketing.

 

Skills/Abilities:

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.  Excellent written and verbal communication skills.  Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.  Ability to work independently as well as in a team-oriented environment.

 

Hybrid Work:

All internships follow our hybrid work model, with a minimum of two days working in the office and the remaining days working remotely. Interns must be in the immediate Pittsburgh area for the summer. Reporting location and frequency may be subject to change based on job role and department needs.

 

Other:

Applicants must be able to successfully complete a pre-employment background check, drug screen, and social media screen.
