Internal Auditing Intern - Summer 2026

2026 Program Information

Duquesne Light Company offers summer internships that provide a hands-on, meaningful employment opportunity in a supportive setting that cultivates learning and collaboration.  Duquesne Light’s internship program will provide you with a valuable experience and a solid start to your career in various disciplines.

  • Internships are full-time (40 hours/week), paid, and run for 12 weeks (May-August).
  • Internships are located in Pittsburgh and follow DLH’s Hybrid Work Model (described below).
  • Candidates must be full-time, degree-seeking students enrolled in an accredited college or university and have completed their Sophomore year of studies.
  • Candidates must have at least one semester remaining after completion of the internship/must not have graduated prior to the internship starting.
  • Candidates must be in good academic standing.
  • Candidates must be willing to work the required schedule as defined in the job description.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability through studies, employment or extracurricular activities.
  • Aptitude for problem solving; strong communication skills.

 

Overall Purpose:

Becoming a top-performing utility requires forward thinking, the ability to balance risk and strict compliance with ever-changing federal regulations, and strong governmental relations – which is where the Office of General Counsel (OGC) department comes in.
The OGC leverages the synergies between legal, compliance, internal audit and enterprise risk management, collectively providing corporate services to DQE Holdings LLC, Duquesne Light Holdings, Inc. and its subsidiaries, including Duquesne Light Company and DQE Communications. The OGC also includes the Corporate Secretary function for all Duquesne entities, including the governance of the ownership group and the Board of Directors.

 

The Internal Auditing Intern would focus on audit testwork to assist the Internal Audit Department with achieving the Internal Audit Plan.

 

Education/Experience:

Applicants must be currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program in Accounting. 

 

Skills/Abilities:

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.  Excellent written and verbal communication skills.  Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.  Ability to work independently as well as in a team-oriented environment.

 

Hybrid Work:

All internships follow our hybrid work model, with a minimum of two days working in the office and the remaining days working remotely. Interns must be in the immediate Pittsburgh area for the summer. Reporting location and frequency may be subject to change based on job role and department needs.
