Communications Intern - Year Round

Position Overview: 

Our Communications team is looking for an intern who’s passionate about connecting and inspiring people. This team member will develop content and channel strategies to engage BWXT employees throughout North America. They will collaborate extensively with team members across human resources, information technology, operations, and other functions to drive culture change and accelerate priority projects across the company.

 

 

Location:

On-site in Lynchburg, VA with the potential for a hybrid work schedule 

Duration - based on school schedule: Starting part-time at the beginning of May, turning full-time over the summer, and returning to part-time when school restarts.

 

Your Day to Day as a Communications Intern: 

  • Teams with partners across the communications organization to develop plans and content to include messages from leaders, feature stories, posters, digital graphics, executive bios and video in support of BWXT campaigns.
  • Counsels and influences stakeholders in communications best practices, providing recommendations on messaging, channel and media.
  • Drafts and develops communications deliverables in support of campaign objectives.
  • Supports other Communications campaign leaders – both internal and external – in developing and delivering communications tactics.
  • Builds and executes measurable communications programs aligned with business priorities.
  • Liaises with counterparts in marketing, public relations and external communications to ensure consistency of messaging, share deliverables and serve as information conduit communications team.

 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Rising university Junior or Senior pursuing a bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, or a related area.
  • Earliest acceptable graduation is spring 2026.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of relevant coursework in corporate communications, public relations, marketing, or a combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to write and edit clear, engaging, and grammatically correct content; willingness to be coached.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Action-oriented and curious individual who demonstrates collaboration and strong emotional intelligence.
  • Great attention to detail and strong work ethic.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Detail-oriented individual with exceptional organizational and time management skills.
  • Computer and software knowledge, including database management and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Must be a U.S. citizen with no dual citizenship.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) clearance.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of SharePoint and M365 platforms a plus!
