Engineering Interns
Saint Paul Regional Water Services (SPRWS) is looking to hire multiple individuals to assist with the Lead Free team and GIS Engineering team.
Here's what you can expect to do:
Lead Free Engineering Intern - 1 available position
Assist in efforts to identify, plan, and organize information to support the lead service line replacement program. This internship provides hands-on experience in water infrastructure management, environmental health, and public safety initiatives.
The primary duties and responsibilities include:
- Assist in the material identification of water service lines
- Monitor progress of ongoing lead service line replacement projects and provide regular updates
- Assist in public outreach and education efforts, helping residents understand the importance of removing lead service lines from the system
- Contribute to the preparation of reports, presentations, and documentation for project tracking
- Conduct research and gather data on lead service line replacement practices and regulations
GIS Engineering Intern - 1 available position
Perform functions related to the operation of GIS and data applications for Saint Paul Regional Water Services. The intern will work under direct supervision on specific projects and on general GIS and data management projects. The majority of the time will be spent conducting updates to spatial data and performing database maintenance.
The primary duties and responsibilities include:
- Perform edits on GIS data
- Create and/or edit point, line and polygon feature classes with ESRI software for the development and maintenance of spatial databases
- Assist staff with routine GIS database maintenance
- Conduct quality control and data cleanup
- Prepare clear, complete and accurate maps for special projects
- Perform data collection in the field using GPS technology and other means
- Utilize MS Office technologies and the ESRI suite of software to provide requested service to others
Information specific to this position:
These positions will be in office 15-20 hours a week. Schedule is flexible and remote work is possible after a period of time.

Position Requirements
Must maintain active student status for the duration of internship
Lead Free Engineering Intern:
- One year of college semester credits including at least two classes related to civil engineering, water infrastructure, or public utilities
GIS Engineering Intern:
- Two years of college semester credits including at least two classes in GIS
- Experience with ArcGIS Pro software and ArcGIS Online
