Engineering Design Intern

We are a leading Chartered Architectural Technology, Engineering, and Planning practice based in Dublin. Our multidisciplinary team delivers complex construction projects for clients in the private, public, and multinational sectors. With extensive experience across residential, commercial, retail, industrial, and healthcare projects in Ireland and the UK, our Directors and team are committed to sustainable design and cost-efficient solutions to meet today’s challenging environment.

Our services include architectural design, structural engineering, urban design, town planning, technical design, building surveying, project management, project administration, fire cert applications, DAC applications, assigned certifier duties, and legal mapping.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an enthusiastic Engineering Design Intern to join our Dublin office. This internship provides the opportunity to gain hands-on experience across a wide range of disciplines, from architectural technology and structural engineering to town planning and project administration. You will work closely with our experienced engineers and project teams, contributing to both design work and on-site activities.

What You’ll Do

  • Assist the Engineering team in designing drainage networks and road layouts for large housing developments
  • Gain exposure to a wide range of services including architectural technology, structural engineering, urban design, town planning, building surveying, project management, and technical design
  • Use industry-standard software to support design and planning work
  • Participate in the preparation of applications such as Fire Certificates, DAC applications, and legal mapping
  • Assist with project administration and documentation
  • Visit active construction sites to gain practical, on-the-ground experience
  • Work under the guidance of senior engineers and designers to develop both technical and professional skills

What We’re Looking For

  • Current student or recent graduate in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Architectural Technology, or a related discipline
  • Strong interest in engineering design and sustainable construction practices
  • Basic knowledge of design and engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, or similar)
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Enthusiastic, self-motivated, and eager to learn from multidisciplinary experts

ADDITIONAL BENEFITS

On-site Supervision and Support

Our internships include 24/7 on-site staff to support students working and living abroad. All students will also report to a supervisor at their internship site. Supervisors provide and oversee daily tasks, introduce the intern to team members, and mentor the intern in organizational agility, skill acquisition, and career readiness. Interns complete a midpoint and final evaluation, and supervisors complete a final evaluation of their interns. All work responsibilities and projects are approved in advance. 

Academic Credit

Students on an internship have the opportunity to enroll in their home university for credit, or enroll in a course through API to transfer back to their university for credit. Email support-internships@apiexperience.com for more information and a syllabus.
