Business Administration Intern

About the role: 

A Business Administration Intern at Thaddeus will perform administrative, technical, and professional duties. The intern will help in various aspects of the business and can assist in Operations and Development. This position requires someone that can function in a fast-paced and enthusiastic environment; someone who is a self-starter, detail and goal oriented and can multi-task on a day-to-day basis. The intern will learn to communicate, perform and collaborate with professionals, clients and outsourced entities. 

 

The Business Administration Intern will receive direct supervision from the Operations and Development manager under the Operations and Development Departments.  

 

(Note: this is an unpaid internship role) 

 

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Perform a variety of administrative support duties such as research, data entry and analysis, identifying discrepancies within the organization, and spreadsheet management 
  • Answer and make phone calls, respond to questions and concerns of management, staff and community partners, and send professional written communication  
  • Assist in the research and identification of potential grant and contract funds 
  • Create presentations for organizational leaders and/or organization as a whole 
  • Assist in tracking the grants/contract process and write funding proposals that align with the current plans of operations, while maintaining donor and grant databases 
  • Assist in the strategic planning process and keep track of organizational goals  
  • Help plan and organize events for the non-profit 
  • Assist management in donor cultivation through drafting donor communications and fostering relationships with potential donors 
  • Partake in provided facilitation training and assist in facilitation of one or more of the organization’s virtual departments and/or committees 
  • Participate in our Buddy system once assimilated and act as a mentor/point of contact for new interns transitioning into your team during their induction and onboarding process 
  • Perform other assigned duties, as needed, to assist the Operations & Development manager  

 

Qualifications: 

Required:  

  • Pursuing an undergraduate degree in Business Administration, Project Management, Communication, or Finance, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience 
  • Ability to learn, interpret, explain, and apply strong and effective communication skills both verbally and in writing 
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet project deadlines 
  • Ability to demonstrate strong and effective research, organizational and time management skills 
  • Ability to collaborate as a team member and have a flexible schedule for group work outside of the mandatory meetings 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.) 
  • Intern must have the appropriate technology, internet connection and ability to function in a virtual capacity via Microsoft Teams 

Preferred: 

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)  
  • Knowledge of grant writing techniques and strategies  
  • Experience with writing grant proposals within Los Angeles County (a plus) 
  • Familiar or have experience with business development in non-profit organizations 
  • Comfortable working with data 
  • An understanding of Microsoft Project 
  • Basic knowledge of HTML tags and Canva 
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Teams and OneNote, 8x8 Work, and Adobe Creative Suite (especially Adobe Acrobat DC)

  • Intern will learn general knowledge of strategic planning and monitoring  
  • Intern will learn tools and techniques to facilitate online meetings 
  • Intern will learn to prepare and present research findings to organizational leaders 
  • Intern will learn to write and prepare Statement of Work 
  • Intern will learn general knowledge of different aspects of a managerial role 

 

Time Commitment and Working Conditions:  

  • Due to COVID-19, the responsibilities for this role can be performed 100% remotely, on-site, or as a hybrid experience  
  • Must be available to work a minimum of 15-20 hours per week  
  • Must be available for the following VIRTUAL weekly meetings: 
    • Weekly All Staff Meeting: Tuesdays 9AM - 10AM PST 
    • Weekly Development/Operations Meeting: Thursdays 10AM - 12PM PST 
  • Must be able to commit to this 6-month to 1-year internship (accommodations can be made for school schedules, as well as exams) 

 

NOTE: There are various department and program meetings held throughout the week and, as a Business Administration intern, you will be asked to either represent or assist the Operations Manager at one or more of these other meetings throughout your internship - because of this, you should have somewhat of an open or flexible availability. You will also be asked to facilitate one of the other meetings once you have successfully completed your facilitation training. (If you have questions regarding this and the specific meeting times, please ask during the interview process)
