About Perfect Hire

Perfect Hire is a recruiting tech company on a mission to fix the hiring chaos that holds companies back.

We believe recruiting is sales - and we built the first Talent Management Platform that treats it that way. Our platform helps businesses hire faster, smarter, and more consistently by bringing rigor into the recruiting world and thoughtfully sprinkling in AI tools to create a streamlined, user friendly experience for recruiters and applicants alike. We’re redefining how growing companies scale their teams - and we’re doing it right here in Appalachia.

About the Role

We’re looking for a curious, hands-on AI/Machine Learning Engineering Intern to join our product and engineering team. You’ll work directly with our Chief of Product and engineering leads to design, train, and deploy machine learning models that power the intelligence behind Perfect Hire.

This role is ideal for undergraduate or graduate students in West Virginia studying Computer Science, Data Science, or AI, who are eager to apply what they’ve learned in a real-world startup environment. You’ll help shape how recruiters find, engage, and forecast talent using AI.

What You’ll Work On

  • AI Model Development: Support training and fine-tuning models for sourcing, candidate matching, and predictive analytics (e.g., intent to leave, career trajectory scoring).
  • Data Pipeline Engineering: Assist in building and cleaning datasets that power our recommendation and forecasting engines.
  • Applied NLP: Use LLMs and vector search to make job descriptions and resumes “talk” to each other intelligently.
  • Feature Engineering: Develop and test features that make recruiter workflows more predictive and less reactive.
  • Experimentation: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to test AI use cases and evaluate their performance in production.

Who You Are

  • Are currently enrolled in a Computer Science, Data Science, or related program (undergrad or grad) in West Virginia
  • Have experience (academic or project-based) with Python, TensorFlow/PyTorch, and NLP models
  • Love solving problems and aren’t afraid to tinker, test, and iterate
  • Think in systems, not silos — you want your models to make real impact
  • Are energized by startup culture: fast-moving, high-autonomy, and feedback-rich

What You’ll Learn

  • Real-world applications of AI in recruiting and HR tech
  • How to deploy ML models in production SaaS environments
  • Collaboration within an early-stage, high-growth startup
  • Working alongside experts in product design, data science, and automation

Internship Notice (per DOL Fact Sheet #71)

This internship follows federal guidelines for lawful educational programs.

  • If paid, it meets all wage requirements under the FLSA.
  • If unpaid, it’s structured around your learning — not labor.
  • Every intern gains real training, mentorship, and clear scope — never busywork.

At Perfect Hire, we build systems that make work fairer. That starts with how we hire — and how we teach.

Equal Opportunity at Perfect Hire

At Perfect Hire, we hire humans — all kinds.

We believe great teams are built through difference, not sameness. Every person deserves a fair shot to do their best work and be seen for who they are, not just what’s on paper.

We’re an equal opportunity employer. That means we don’t discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other protected characteristic.

What matters here is your impact, integrity, and hunger to build something better. If you’re qualified and you care, you’re welcome.
