The Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA) currently has an opening for an Automotive/Equipment Technician – Senior at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery (SWVMC).

The SWVMC is situated on state-owned farmland at the Southern Wisconsin Center, located near Union Grove, WI and provides a final resting place for eligible veterans, spouses, and dependents. The 105-acre cemetery site encompasses gently rolling hills with serene, natural beauty.

Position Summary

This position plays a vital role in maintaining a dignified and peaceful landscape which serves as the final resting place for many of Wisconsin’s veterans. The incumbent will be responsible for the daily maintenance and repair of cemetery equipment. This includes maintaining all cemetery equipment throughout the year so that the equipment is operational through all types of weather conditions. Cemetery equipment includes utility vehicles, snow blowers, trenchers, augers, trimmers, rototillers, etc.

This position also works in the cemetery shop performing skilled maintenance and repair of cemetery vehicles, skid steers and excavators. The incumbent will assist as needed with cemetery operations including excavating burial sites, performing landscaping, setting grave markers, etc.

Salary Information

The starting pay rate for this position is $24.55 an hour. The Automotive/Equipment Technician – Senior classification is in pay schedule and range 03-11.

Compensation for current State employees may vary and will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan.

 

Job Details

Due to the nature of this position’s duties, candidates will be subject to a criminal background check prior to appointment.

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship) at the time of application. WDVA does not sponsor work or student visas, either at time of hire or at any later time.

The incumbent must meet the requirements to operate a State of Wisconsin Fleet vehicle.

Due to the nature of this position’s duties, the work of this position may be performed outdoors in varying weather conditions.

A twelve-month probationary period will be required.Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants will have training or experience in automotive or small engine repair and maintenance of gas and diesel equipment.
