Middle School Band Teacher

USD 290 - Ottawa, KS is seeking a dedicated and passionate Middle School Band Teacher to inspire the next generation of musicians. In this role, you will be the primary architect of our instrumental program, introducing students to the foundational joy of making music. Your core responsibilities include teaching beginners how to read music, master music theory, and develop proficiency on a variety of wind, brass, and percussion instruments.

Beyond the classroom, this position requires a professional who values vertical alignment and collaboration. You will work closely with the high school music department to ensure a seamless transition for students, fostering a "one program" culture. This includes a willingness to assist with high school rehearsals, attend performances, and support secondary-level educators as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

Instruction: Lead daily rehearsals and small-group lessons focused on technique, tone, and rhythmic accuracy.

Recruitment: Actively recruit and retain students by creating a highly motivating and inclusive learning environment.

Dependability: Maintain a consistent schedule of concerts and festivals, demonstrating reliability to students, parents, and administration.

Collaboration: Partner with high school directors to mentor older students and assist with large-scale district musical events.
