The Wisconsin Veterans Home at Union Grove (WVHUG) is recruiting for a Nursing Instructor, to provide orientation and in-service training for our dedicated team. The Home is a 24/7/365 long-term care facility that provides comfort, support, and professional healthcare services to elderly or disabled veterans and their spouses. Our facility is in Racine County, a short drive from Milwaukee, Racine, Kenosha, and other key locations in southeastern Wisconsin.

Position Summary

Under the general supervision of the DON, this position provides professional healthcare instruction to personnel and residents at WVHUG. The Nursing Instructor develops, delivers, and evaluates educational programming; coordinates, implements, and monitors new employee orientation; and functions as a Primary Instructor for training programs. The incumbent disseminates information to staff; functions as a resource regarding geriatric nursing care issues; provides Quality Measures training and is a participating member of the Quality Assurance Performance Improvement committee and projects as assigned. The incumbent ensures training complies with quality standards and is in accordance with the State Nurse Practice Act; American Nurses Association; Gerontological Nursing Standards; federal, state, and Veterans Administration regulations; and the policies and procedures of WDVA and WVHUG.

Salary Information

Starting salary is between $101,920 and $106,309 depending on candidate qualifications.

Nursing Instructor is in pay schedule-pay range 11-02. Pay will be set in accordance with the State of Wisconsin Compensation Plan in effect at the time of hire. Starting pay for current State employees may vary based on applicable provisions in the Compensation Plan.

 

Job Details

The Nursing Instructor works Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

This position may be expected to work additional hours and/or work weekends and holidays to meet the Home’s operational needs.

Due to the nature of the positions, WDVA will conduct a criminal background check prior to an offer of employment.

Employment in the positions is contingent upon passing a pre-employment tuberculosis (TB) skin test.

A 12-month probationary period may be required.

 

Qualifications

The required credential is:

Wisconsin Registered Nurse license by the date of hire

In addition to the license, required qualifications that will be reviewed in the first step of the process are:

  • 2 years’ working as a nurse, 1 of which was in long-term care
  • Planning and providing adult education

In addition to the qualifications reviewed in the first step of the process, qualifications that will be reviewed in next steps are experience:

  • Using computer programs (e.g., word processing, email, Office Suite, electronic medical records, etc.)*
  • Interpreting and following Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ regulations*
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Instructor certification*
  • Determining educational needs of individuals and organizations
  • Educating and coaching Certified Nursing Assistants, Licensed Practical Nurses, and Registered Nurses
  • Working on quality assurance-performance improvement (QAPI) projects, teams, or similar
  • With state survey processes
