Special Education Teacher

Job Title: Special Education Teacher (3 Elementary & 1 Middle School Opening)

Location: Accomack, VA 23301
Pay Rate: $37–$45/hour

Birch Agency is currently seeking Special Education Teachers for in-person positions in Accomack County, VA. We are looking for passionate, dedicated educators who are committed to making a meaningful difference in the lives of students with special needs.

Current Openings:

Elementary School (3 Positions):

2 Inclusion Setting Positions

1 Self-Contained Classroom Position

Middle School (1 Position):

1 Self-Contained Classroom Position

Successful candidates will support students in developing academic, social, and motor skills while fostering a positive, structured, and inclusive learning environment.

Essential Duties:

Implement the assigned program of study

Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)

Monitor and document student progress toward IEP goals

Maintain and enhance professional skills

Establish and reinforce classroom rules and expectations

Maintain classroom order and ensure student safety

Counsel students regarding academic and behavioral challenges

Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress and behavior

Maintain accurate attendance and grading records

Coordinate class field trips when applicable

Collaborate effectively with school staff and administration

Assume responsibility for classroom materials, equipment, and facilities

Maintain a neat, safe, and positive learning environment

Encourage student self-direction and motivation

Utilize a variety of instructional materials and resources

Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal and Special Education Director

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education or a related field

Valid Virginia Collegiate Professional License or Postgraduate Professional License with appropriate Special Education endorsement (or eligibility)

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and the community
