Start your civil engineering career supporting the design and delivery of infrastructure projects across Montana. Work with licensed engineers, build hands‑on skills, and contribute to meaningful local community projects from day one.

THE ROLE

As an entry-level civil engineer, you will thrive on the exposure and gain experience through a variety of civil engineering-related opportunities, including municipal infrastructure, site development, roadways, stormwater, water systems, and even airports. Under the guidance of a Professional Engineer, the entry civil engineer will learn and support the planning, design, and delivery of infrastructure projects that strengthen the local communities we serve. In this role, you will contribute to technical engineering work, collaborate with multidisciplinary professionals, and help bring projects from concept through construction. This position offers a blend of technical design, problem-solving, field experience, and client interaction, making it a strong opportunity for engineers who want to grow their careers while making a tangible impact.

These responsibilities include:

  • Collaborate with project teams to understand project goals and technical requirements.
  • Use civil engineering design software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, GIS, or similar) to draft plans, create models, and develop design documents.
  • Prepare calculations, reports, and technical documentation to support engineering analyses and design decisions.
  • Contribute to the development of plans, specifications, cost estimates, and construction documents for civil infrastructure projects.
  • Assist with construction administration tasks, including reviewing submittals, documenting progress, and performing field observations.
  • Support senior engineers and project managers by completing assigned project tasks, coordinating with cross‑disciplinary teams, and maintaining organized project files.
  • Apply engineering principles to solve design challenges, evaluate alternatives, and recommend practical solutions.
  • Participate in site visits and learn construction methods, helping ensure design intent is met during project execution.
  • Follow quality standards, safety practices, and industry regulations to ensure accuracy and compliance in all project work.
  • Manage deadlines and deliverables, contributing to a positive client experience and successful project outcomes.
