Culinary Leader Intern - Indianapolis Motor Speedway
The Culinary Intern will support culinary leadership at Indianapolis Motor Speedway by assisting with food preparation, production, and daily kitchen operations during one of the largest live-event seasons in the country. This role provides hands-on experience in high-volume, event-driven food service while maintaining Aramark’s standards for food quality, safety, and sanitation.
The intern will work closely with managers and culinary teams to support daily operations, complete required reports, and contribute to a fast-paced kitchen environment throughout the Month of May and other IMS events.
Qualifications:
Enrollment in or completion of a culinary or hospitality-related program (ACF-aligned preferred)
Food Service Certification as required
Ability to read, write, and follow verbal and written instructions
Ability to work efficiently and calmly in a fast-paced, high-pressure setting
Willingness to adapt schedules and responsibilities during peak event periods
Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and event days
What the Student Will Learn:
- Prepare quality food and baked goods according to established menus and event-specific production plans
- Assist with high-volume food production to support large-scale race and event days
- Prepare and complete daily reports verifying production and transactions
- Understand meal inclusions and portion standards for various service locations
- Ensure proper storage, labeling, and rotation of food in a sanitary manner
- Serve food according to event schedules, departmental policies, and procedures
- Properly use and care for kitchen equipment, including knives and cooking tools
- Monitor and maintain required food temperatures throughout service
- Add garnishes and presentation elements to enhance guest satisfaction and visual appeal
- Communicate daily with culinary managers to understand menus, production needs, and priorities
- Assist with cleaning and sanitation of refrigerators, freezers, cooking, and serving equipment
- Maintain a clean, organized kitchen and storage areas
- Follow established procedures for cleanliness, including sweeping, mopping, and ware washing
- Maintain garbage and kitchen floor areas in a neat and sanitary condition
- Adhere to all food safety regulations, uniform standards, and personal hygiene policies
- Perform other duties as assigned, including assisting in other kitchen or production areas as needed
Scheduling and Logistics:
This internship offers flexible scheduling with no strict start or end date requirements. We are primarily seeking students who can commit heavily from mid-April through the Month of May, our busiest operational period.
Primary commitment: at least two weeks in April and all of May
Hours: typically 15–30 hours per week, with increased hours during major May events
Post-May opportunities: hours may decrease after May, but additional work opportunities may be available based on interest and business needs
This role is ideal for students seeking hands-on experience in a fast-paced, live-event environment while maintaining academic flexibility. There is also a potential to transfer over to the Zoo for a cross-internship experience!
