Salary: $21.76 - $23.84/hr.
Location: Government Center, Suite 223 (in-person)
Duration: Temporary/Internship

The Department of Tax Administration (DTA) is seeking motivated, dependable, and detailed-oriented college students to participate in its Internship Program.

About the Internship:
Gain hands-on experience and valuable skills while interning with Fairfax County’s Department of Tax Administration. This is an opportunity for students to contribute meaningfully to public service operations while developing advanced skills in tax compliance, appraising, customer service, and problem-solving. Work alongside experienced professionals in a collaborative team environment as you assist taxpayers with a full range of county services, including managing assessments or processing payments for personal property taxes, real estate taxes, and more.

This announcement may be used to fill multiple internship positions within the Department of Tax Administration.

Duties May Include:

  • Assisting with administrative, fiscal, and operational tasks
  • Supporting data entry, research, and analytical projects
  • Assisting with customer service inquiries and internal support requests
  • Organizing, reviewing, and maintaining records and reports
  • Participating in special projects and assignments as needed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current second-, third-, or fourth-year college student
  • Major in Information Technology (IT), Geographic Information System (GIS), Accounting, Finance, Taxation, Public Administration or a closely related field.
  • Overall GPA of 3.0 or higher

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong analytical skills with a high level of attention to detail
  • Clear, effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated reliability, professionalism, and a strong work ethic
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining confidentiality

Physical Requirements:

  • Work is primarily sedentary and performed in an office environment.
  • Frequent use of computer, keyboard, and telephone.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods while performing data entry and administrative tasks.
  • Occasional walking, bending, and reaching for office supplies or files.
  • Ability to lift and carry office materials and files weighing up to 10 pounds.
  • All duties can be performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
