Position Overview
The Developmental Optometrist will provide comprehensive functional vision evaluations and manage patients undergoing vision therapy programs. The ideal candidate is patient‑centered, motivated, and eager to grow within a specialty practice.
This position can be full‑time or part‑time, with flexibility depending on experience and availability.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive developmental and behavioral vision evaluations
- Diagnose and manage binocular vision, accommodative, oculomotor, and perceptual disorders
- Develop and oversee individualized vision therapy treatment plans
- Monitor patient progress and adjust therapy plans as needed
- Collaborate with vision therapists, optical staff, and administrative team
- Communicate effectively with parents, patients, schools, and referring providers
- Maintain accurate and thorough clinical documentation
Qualifications
Required:
- Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree from an accredited optometry school
- Licensed (or license‑eligible) in the state of Virginia
- Interest in developmental/behavioral optometry and vision therapy
Preferred (but not required):
- Residency training in Pediatric, Developmental, or Neuro‑Optometry
- Experience with vision therapy or rehabilitation
- FOVDR/CSO Fellow or candidate status (or interest in pursuing)
