Position Overview

 

The Developmental Optometrist will provide comprehensive functional vision evaluations and manage patients undergoing vision therapy programs. The ideal candidate is patient‑centered, motivated, and eager to grow within a specialty practice.

This position can be full‑time or part‑time, with flexibility depending on experience and availability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive developmental and behavioral vision evaluations
  • Diagnose and manage binocular vision, accommodative, oculomotor, and perceptual disorders
  • Develop and oversee individualized vision therapy treatment plans
  • Monitor patient progress and adjust therapy plans as needed
  • Collaborate with vision therapists, optical staff, and administrative team
  • Communicate effectively with parents, patients, schools, and referring providers
  • Maintain accurate and thorough clinical documentation

Qualifications

Required:

  • Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree from an accredited optometry school
  • Licensed (or license‑eligible) in the state of Virginia
  • Interest in developmental/behavioral optometry and vision therapy

Preferred (but not required):

  • Residency training in Pediatric, Developmental, or Neuro‑Optometry
  • Experience with vision therapy or rehabilitation
  • FOVDR/CSO Fellow or candidate status (or interest in pursuing)
