Data Solutions Architect

Reports to: Director of Information Technology

Position Status: Full-Time/Exempt
Location: Hybrid, in-person attendance required Tu/W/Th, must live in Pennsylvania
Starting Salary Range: $125,000

POSITION SUMMARY

 

As we embark on a major technology transformation—including Salesforce, NetSuite and integrated donor and grantee portals—we are seeking a data solutions architect to guide the design, governance and ongoing optimization of our Foundation ecosystem.

The data solutions architect is responsible for the overall design, scalability, security and integration of the organization’s core system environment. This role is critical in translating business requirements into reliable, innovative solutions and ensuring a seamless data ecosystem across platforms such as Salesforce, NetSuite, our data warehouse, donor and grantee portals, and other nonprofit-focused applications. The ideal candidate will have deep data architecture design and deployment expertise, strong experience working with nonprofits, familiarity with existing systems, and a proven ability to manage complex, multi-system integrations.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Partner with teams to ensure data solutions support mission, outcomes and organizational objectives.
  • In collaboration with stakeholders and IT teams, design, document and evolve over time, an enterprise data architecture, standards and governance processes.
  • Educate organizational stakeholders on data literacy and data concepts.
  • Maintain the overall data layer architecture, design and roadmap across the Foundation’s systems (including core ERP& CRM Systems), ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  •  Ensure that architecture supports historical data retention, auditability and analysis.
  • Partner with IT leadership, Foundation staff and vendors to translate business needs into scalable solutions that ensure data is an ever-evolving capability based on the underpinnings of usage, completeness, quality, availability, consistency and security.
  •  Work with business stakeholders to understand data needs and design deploy master data management and data governance programs to meet those needs over time.
  • Establish master data management processes and tools to maintain master data accuracy, consistency and lifecycle management.
  • Establish data governance framework to include policies, standards, roles and decision-making bodies.  
  • Develop and enforce data quality, data classification, retention and privacy standards.
  • Oversee integrations between Salesforce, NetSuite, the data warehouse, Experience Cloud portals and third-party applications (e.g., Conga, Adobe Sign, Fundraise Up).
  • Oversee development of pipelines, ensuring reliability, data quality and performance.
  • Establish standards for data transformations, naming conventions and metadata management.
  • Influence the architecture of Salesforce and NetSuite workflows that integrate with all systems, including oversight of
    change control and maintenance – such that they meet established data standards and enrich overall organizational data capabilities
  • Monitor and manage Salesforce and NetSuite seasonal releases, upgrades and platform changes, including impact assessments and testing as they relate to data creation/editing and the impacts of data warehouse/reporting.
  • Ensure data integrity, uphold governance standards, and apply security best practices across the Foundation’s technology systems.
  •  Recommend and implement new features, tools and automation to improve efficiency, reporting and user experience.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure end-user adoption and continuous improvement of data solutions.

Collaboration & Team Structure (Years 1–2)

  • Collaborates closely with a lean IT team that includes a Salesforce administrator, project manager & business systems specialist and IT/AV support staff.
  • Provides technical leadership and mentorship to the Salesforce administrator, ensuring effective configuration and adoption while maintaining alignment with architectural standards.
  • Partners with the project manager to support change management, end-user adoption and training during the early phases of system implementation.
  • Collaborates with the director of IT to align departmental structure and staffing with the Foundation’s long-term technology strategy, ensuring a smooth transition as the IT team expands (e.g., adding roles such as a second administrator or IT support technician in year 2 and beyond).
  • Collaborate closely with the Foundation’s accounting and operations teams to ensure cross-functional workflows remain stable.
  • Brings prior experience leading technical teams, mentoring junior staff, or coordinating cross-functional project teams to deliver scalable Salesforce and integration solutions.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Science or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of data warehouse design/build experience, including 2+ years in an architect or senior technical role.
  • Knowledge of ETL/ELT tools, data pipelines and orchestration frameworks.
  • Proven experience building data governance programs from the ground-up.
  • Strong understanding of data quality management, metadata management and data stewardship models.
  • Experience in designing and implementing master data management solutions and processes
  • Knowledge of data privacy, security and compliance principles relevant to nonprofits and financial systems.
  • Strong understanding of Salesforce and NetSuite data modeling, security, automation and integration patterns.
  • Salesforce Nonprofit Cloud and Experience Cloud preferred.
  • Experience with OmniStudio (OmniScripts, FlexCards, Integration Procedures, DataRaptors).
  • Experience with using Azure Dev Ops or similar DevOps tool for code deployment between sandboxes and production.
  • Proven experience managing complex integrations (API, ETL, middleware, OmniStudio or similar tools).
  • Experience working with nonprofits, including donor management, grants management or fundraising systems.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts into business terms.
  • 5+ years of experience designing and implementing business intelligence tools.
