Seasonal Property Maintenance Inspector
Job Description:
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Perform field inspections of private residential and commercial properties in the enforcement of City Ordinances pertaining to tall grass/weed yard maintenance. Create and maintain violation records and perform associated clerical/office tasks pertaining to inspections and compliance.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE POSITION:
Provide part-time seasonal services to the Planning and Development Department in duties involving tall grass/weed yard maintenance. Must exhibit an ability to interpret written regulations, use appropriate tact, demonstrate sound communication skills, apply sound judgment, and be proficient with the use of computer software. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Chief Code Official.
Examples of Duties:
Inspect privately owned properties to determine compliance with tall grass/weed regulations of the Property Maintenance Code. Respond in a timely fashion to citizen complaints. Communicate effectively with complainants, owners, and/or occupants of properties subject to compliance orders. Correctly and efficiently gather evidence pertaining to tall grass/weed violations. Prepare Legal Notices of Violation/Orders to Comply.Prepareandmaintainsrecordsofinspectionsandanyotherrelatedreports.Assistotherinspectorsanddepartmentstaffintheperformanceofrelatedworkasrequired. Regular and predictable on-site attendance required.
Typical Qualifications:
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Must possess the ability to understand City regulations and convey those requirements to the general public; Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions, possess a strong ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, and have the ability to work independently with limited supervision; Must have the ability to enforce ordinance requirements using sound common sense and appropriate tact; Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with city staff and the general public; Knowledge/familiarity with Kettering streets and neighborhoods preferred.
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent; Must be 18 years of age or older; Must possess and maintain a valid State of Ohio driver’s license and have a good driving record; Must have experience with basic computer software and be able to quickly adapt to changing technology; Must be able to read and understand basic site plans and GIS maps.
