We’re Hiring: Controller | CDC Foundation | Atlanta, GA

The CDC Foundation is seeking a Controller to lead and elevate our accounting operations, endowment management, and federal grants compliance. This is a mission-driven leadership role supporting critical public health work across the nation.

Location: Headquarters – Georgia
Salary Range: $134,649 – $164,500 annually

About the Role

The Controller ensures the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of the Foundation’s financial reporting. This position plays a key leadership role in:

  • Endowment & investment accounting
  • Federal grant compliance
  • Nonprofit fund accounting
  • U.S. GAAP and Uniform Guidance adherence
  • Audit leadership (including Single Audits)
  • Internal controls and risk mitigation
  • Oversight of accounting operations & systems

You will collaborate closely with finance leadership teams including the Finance Operations Director, Financial Reporting Manager, and Director of Financial Planning & Analysis.

Key Responsibilities:

Accounting & Reporting

Oversee GL, revenue reconciliation, month-end/year-end close
Prepare GAAP-compliant financial statements
Manage net asset classifications and restrictions
Deliver reporting and variance analysis for leadership & Board

Endowment & Investment Accounting

Manage all endowment accounting and disclosures
Reconcile data across investment managers & custodians
Ensure compliance with UPMIFA and donor restrictions

Federal Grants & Restricted Funding

Ensure compliance with Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200)
Oversee SF-425 reporting, SEFA schedules & Single Audit prep
Support subrecipient monitoring and compliance

Internal Controls & Compliance

Maintain strong accounting policies and fraud‑prevention measures
Ensure compliance with grant terms, regulatory requirements

Leadership

Supervise and develop the accounting team
Drive system improvements and workflow optimization

QualificationsRequired

  • Bachelor’s in Accounting/Finance
  • 8–10+ years progressive accounting experience
  • Nonprofit fund accounting & federal grants experience
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP & Uniform Guidance
  • Audit leadership (incl. Single Audits)
  • Proven management experience

Preferred

  • CPA strongly preferred
  • Experience in public health, foundations, or federally funded orgs
  • Familiarity with UPMIFA & endowment spending policies
  • Experience with nonprofit ERP systems (Salesforce, NetSuite, Workday, etc.)
