Campus Life Lead & Serve Intern (Davie Campus)
Brief Description:
The Division of Student Affairs seeks a part-time student intern who is interested in developing skills, planning, marketing, implementing and sustaining co-curricular leadership and service-learning initiatives as new or into existing programs.
These initiatives include and are not limited to: leadership and service-learning workshops, institutes and programming, and University-wide Days of Service. Additionally, this role assists with maintaining successful office operations and support of Campus Life, Broward Campuses. This position reports to the Coordinator of Campus Life, or designee, and is located on the Davie Campus with programming support to the Davie, Ft Lauderdale, and Dania Beach campuses.
This position will be for 20 hours per week. Applicants must have excellent communication skills, demonstrate creativity and show great attention to detail.
Key Accountabilities:
Provide leadership, service immersion and social change programming to include:
Planning and implementation of programming on three Broward Campuses
Marketing of programming, including promotion and use of social media
Assessment of programming, including tracking attendance and impact on participants
Prioritizing tasks
Other duties as assigned
What You Will Do and Learn:
Communication: Clearly and effectively exchange information, ideas, facts, and perspectives with person inside and outside of an organization.
Demonstrate effective verbal and written communication through proper phone, email and social media etiquette
Assist with reception area and greeting visitors
Complete university documents effectively in relation to expenses, event registration and room reservation.
Deliver peer-to-peer workshops and presentations focused on leadership and service-learning education and development.
Assist in planning and marketing of programs
Professionalism: Understand and demonstrate respectful habits, and act in the interest of the larger community and university.
Gain experience working in a professional environment (being punctual, adhering to dress code)
Attend a 1-hour Title IX for Student Employees Training (Part of the Student Affairs CORE Training Program)
Complete 1-hour Owls Making Cents (Financial Literacy) Training (Part of the Student Affairs CORE Training Program)
Teamwork: Build and maintain collaborative relationships to work effectively toward common goals, while appreciating diverse viewpoints and shared responsibilities.
Assist with creating awareness for student involvement opportunities and service-learning initiatives available at FAU and on the Broward Campuses.
Interact with other departments on campus and understand how they contribute to the FAU community
Planning, coordination, and execution of events with different departments.
Critical Thinking: Process of analyzing, evaluating, and reflecting to come to an informed understanding.
Develop programming specific to the needs of the Broward Campuses student population
Analyze class enrollment schedule to identify best days, times and locations for programming
Assist with student, faculty, staff, and community member questions with a courteous and professional demeanor by utilizing knowledge of the department and the university.
Complete 1-hour Kognito At-Risk Students Training (Part of the Student Affairs CORE Training Program)
Attend a 1-hour Emergency Management Training (Part of the Student Affairs CORE Training Program)
Leadership: A process to recognize and build on personal (and team) aspirations.
Leadership on planning, coordination and implementation of programs
Engaging and negotiating with students and staff
Technology: understand and leverage technologies ethically to enhance efficiency, complete tasks, and accomplish goals.
Utilize computer software such as: Microsoft Office, Google Apps, Owl Central, social media, and Handshake
Using computers and tablets to engage the students to become more involved.
Use of digital technology to actively engage participants, i.e., polls, videos, online hour tracking software, etc.
Use of digital scanners during events to collect participant information and accurate counts
Perform clerical duties, including copying, filing, scanning, etc.
Career & Self-Development: Proactively develop oneself and one’s career through continual personal and professional learning, awareness of one’s strengths and areas for development, navigation of career opportunities, and networking to build relationships within and outside of FAU.
Complete the professional development plan under Broward Campus Life within two semesters of employment. Register and create profile in handshake. Research any two internships, job opportunities and/or post-graduation degree programs. Attend one Career Center presentation per semester. Review your resume with the Career Center. Attend 2 LinkedIn Learning Workshops.
Attend a 1-hour Career Readiness & Leadership session (Part of the Student Affairs CORE Training Program)
Identify and articulate one's skills, strengths, knowledge, and experiences relevant to the position desired and career goals and identify areas necessary for professional growth.
