Graduate Assistant, Fraternity and Sorority Life

Basic Function:  This position will work with the Fraternity and Sorority community on the Kent campus. This position will coordinate and assist with Fraternity and Sorority programming and services, develop educational and leadership programming and workshops that aid in the improvement of chapter operations, develop risk management programming, serve as a liaison to specific fraternity and sorority chapters, and advise an umbrella council (Interfraternity Council, Panhellenic Council, or Integrated Greek Council). This position will report to the Assistant Director, Fraternity and Sorority Life. 

 

Example of duties/essential functions: Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following:   

  • Advise the Interfraternity Council  
  • Oversee and implement community service and philanthropy guidelines for all FSL organizations 
  • Assist council leaders in the planning and execution of all events and award application deadlines 
  • Collaborate with Assistant Director, FSL to create Fraternity and Sorority Life leadership pathways and curriculum 
  • Serve as chapter coach for specific fraternities and sororities  
  • Collaborate with FSL community and council leaders to execute annual community-wide philanthropy event  
  • Track event attendance for assessment of programs 
  • Assist with budget management  
  • Help mentor undergraduate FSL interns and collaborate with them on specific projects such as the Emerging Leaders Retreat, President’s Prep Day, FSL Fest, etc. 
  • Attend the Association for Fraternal Leadership and Values (AFLV) conference with all council leaders and FSL Staff 
  • Engage in professional development opportunities with the Association of Fraternity and Sorority Advisors (AFA) 
  • Perform other duties as assigned 

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

During the serving period, students must meet these minimum qualifications: 

  • 3.0 GPA 
  • Full time graduate student status (minimum of 8 hours) 
  • Work 20 hours per week 

 

Knowledge of:

  • Kent State University resources

Expectations: 

  • Maintain a 3.0 GPA while enrolled as a full-time graduate student (minimum of 8 hours), remaining in good academic standing 
  • Will work approximately 20 hours per week during the fall and spring semester 
  • Night and weekend work will be required 
  • Weekly meetings with supervisor 
  • Maintain professional relationships with student employees, department staff, and university faculty/staff 
  • Serve as a member of the Center for Student Involvement staff.  This includes a willingness to work across areas in the office to accomplish projects and being open to all possible tasks asked of individuals (i.e. attend professional development (staff retreats) and staff meetings, answering phones, copying, mailings).

Timeline 

Monday, 8/10/26: Start date for fall 2026 semester   

Friday 12/4/26: End date for fall 2026 semester   

Monday, 1/11/27: Start date for spring 2027 semester   

Friday, 5/7/27: End date for spring 2027 semester 

 

COMPENSATION: 

Semi-Monthly Stipend ($11,000/year) 

Tuition remission for fall and spring semesters only 

University Holidays off
