Middle School Spanish Teacher

Innovation Academy Charter School seeks a full-time middle school Spanish teacher for the upcoming school year. Successful candidates will be passionate learners and collaborators who are committed to the school’s mission and invested in the academic and social-emotional learning of all students. Our school has a close-knit community of teachers, students, administration, and parents. Teachers serve as advisors to a group of 12-13 students each year, building strong relationships with students outside of the academic classroom.

IACS seeks to serve all students within an academically rigorous and culturally responsive community of learners. Our school aims to engage students in practical applications of their learning and support students to become critical thinkers, collaborative problem-solvers, and self-directed learners.

The Spanish program is a proficiency-based program that immerses the students in the language from the first day. Students are expected to participate and stay in the target language while in class. By immersing themselves in Spanish, students begin to learn the natural way and are encouraged to speak as often as possible, embracing errors as an expected part of learning a language. Teachers provide comprehensible input, scaffolded activities, games, music, physical activity, guided readings and community building activities to create an error-tolerant environment for students to learn to take safe risks with the target language. Spanish teachers at IACS use the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines to guide a largely teacher-prepared curriculum that supports student growth in the target language.

Situated in Tyngsboro, MA (near the intersection of routes 3 and 495), IACS draws a diverse student body from neighboring districts, including Lowell, Dracut, and Chelmsford, as well as Tyngsboro. Our community represents 19 languages spoken, 39% students of color, 25% of students on special education plans, and a community of students and staff that identify as LGBTQ.

IACS has a strong mentoring program for teachers new to the school and those new to teaching, including career changers. We welcome candidates who are committed to their own professional learning, open to feedback, and committed to collaboration.
