Freelance Tech Writer (Remote)
Are you a Computer Science or Engineering student who enjoys exploring how technology works in everyday life?
MakeUseOf is looking for technically curious students to join our team as freelance Tech writers covering topics across PC and mobile platforms, internet technologies, productivity tools, security, entertainment tech, and smart home devices.
No formal writing background? That’s okay. We’re looking for strong technical thinkers who we can coach into great writers.
This is a remote, flexible opportunity ideal for students looking to build a portfolio, gain media experience, and get paid to write about the tech they already enjoy!
What You’ll Do
- Write articles about topics like Windows, Linux, Android, Apple devices, internet tools, productivity software, security tips, streaming services, and smart home tech
- Break down complex technical concepts into clear, practical explanations for everyday users
- Pitch article ideas based on trends, personal experience, and emerging technologies
- Collaborate with editors for feedback and development
- Learn how professional tech publishing works
What We’re Looking For
- Current or recent student in Computer Science, Engineering, IT, or a related field (preferred but not required)
- Strong familiarity with at least one of the following areas:
- PC and mobile platforms (Windows, Linux, Android, Apple ecosystems)
- Internet technologies, security, or troubleshooting
- Productivity and creative software tools
- Streaming platforms and entertainment technology
- Smart home devices and connected home technology
- Clear written communication skills
- Self-starter attitude and ability to meet deadlines
Compensation
- Freelance (1099 contractor role)
- Paid per article (rates based on assignment type and experience)
- Flexible workload
