Fall 2026 Engineer Co-Op

Purpose

TRC is currently looking for a Fall 2026 candidate. 
 

The Engineer Co-Op position at the Transportation Research Center, is designed for college or graduate-level students with a focus on mechanical or electrical engineering focusing in the areas of Advanced Driving Assistance Systems or Automated Driving Systems. This role involves working within the test team to support various programs and projects. The co-op will engage in troubleshooting various systems, developing test methodologies, and gaining hands-on experience in the lifecycle of transportation testing. The Co-Op will be working with engineers to conduct complex engineering testing and analysis. The Co-Op opportunity will require a one semester/quarter commitment from the selected candidate(s). This opportunity could extend to two semesters/quarters. 


 

Essential Functions*

• Assist in developing and use of analytical procedures, component and/or full-scale vehicle testing

   Primarily in the areas of automated Vehicles and ADAS.

• Assist with test execution, data collection and analysis

Qualifications

• High school diploma is required

• Enrollment & active pursuit of a Bachelor of Science or master’s in mechanical or electrical engineering or related field

• Basic working knowledge/principles of common automotive systems - Powertrain brakes, hybrid systems, and suspension

• Excellent computer skills using office applications

• Interpersonal skills

• Ability to effectively operate and communicate in a multi-cultural environment

• Aptitude and desire to work in a hands-on capacity when required to support vehicle testing, calibration, and testing design efforts.

• Organization and planning skills

• Valid driver’s license

 

Working conditions

• Standard office, climate-controlled environment

• May be exposed to temperatures below 0 degree and above 95 degrees

• May be exposed to inclement weather

• May be exposed to hazardous chemicals, such as gas, oil, and paint

 

Physical requirements

• Must be able to remain in a stationary position for an extended period

• Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment

• Ability to communicate with customers and co-workers
