Internship Projects/Tasks/Assignments

  • Engage in project planning as needed to gain critical insight needed for preparing a grant application
  • Work with the mentor to identify components needed to draft1-2 specific grant proposals, i.e. needs statement, workplan, timeline, project description, project budget, project summary, match statement, work samples, etc.
  • Conduct research as needed and document findings for 1-2 specific grant proposals: brief mentor on findings
  • Work with the mentor to draft various sections for 1-2 grant proposals
  • In general, research and document in a spreadsheet additional resources and information to support future project planning and grant proposals, such as why virtual craft workshops improve health benefits for aging populations or arts entrepreneurship in economically distressed areas.

 

Skills Intern Should Develop

  • Team engagement: active listening, fostering inclusion, providing autonomy, and offering continuous feedback
  • Project planning: technical expertise (hard skills) like scheduling and risk management with interpersonal abilities (soft skills) such as communication, leadership, and adaptability
  • Technical /Grant Writing for a specific topic and audience: audience analysis, development of subject matter expertise, information architecture, proofreading, editing, research, budget development, clear communication, and attention to detail to meet strict deadlines
  • Communications: effectively conveying and receiving information through verbal, nonverbal, and written channels
  • Research and documentation: critical thinking, data analysis, information literacy, and clear communication of findings

 

Previous Skills Intern Would Need to be Successful

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with an eagerness to grow these skills by working with others
  • Works well as a team member
  • Comfortable working independently, especially with remote work
  • Research and documentation
  • Comfortability with receiving feedback for editing and revision
