Unemployment Compensation Tax Agent

THE POSITION

The Department of Labor & Industry is searching for an independent and highly motivated individual to help a wide-range of employers and businesses comply with PA Unemployment Compensation (UC) law. As an Unemployment Compensation Tax Agent on our Erie team, you will have the opportunity to travel throughout an assigned territory within Pennsylvania to meet with claimants and other individuals to audit employer’s accounts and complete other assigned tasks. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As an Unemployment Compensation Tax Agent, you will be corresponding with employers and businesses to communicate all necessary requirements they must fulfill under Pennsylvania UC law. You will be responsible for examining their financial records and investigating issues to confirm compliance as well as identify errors and fraudulent activity. Each case is unique and offers an abundance of new learning opportunities. Work also involves investigating blocked UC claims, nonprofit organizations, and predecessor/successor relationships; and performing collection enforcement tasks. You will have the opportunity to serve as a liaison between the Bureau and the Commonwealth’s many employers, providing answers to questions employers may have regarding the UC Law with intelligent responses in a professional and courteous manner.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, home headquartered
  • Work hours are generally 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. AWS (alternate work schedule) may be available.
  • This position is home headquartered. In order to be home headquartered, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. 
  • Frequent travel throughout an assigned territory in Pennsylvania is required. Travel expenses will be paid.
  • Salary: The starting salary is non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • A bachelor’s degree which includes or is supplemented by 18 college credits in finance and accounting, of which at least 6 college credits are in accounting; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 18 college credits in finance and accounting, of which at least 6 college credits are in accounting.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.
