Position Overview
Lutherdale is seeking a passionate and responsible Farm Educator to care for our small farm animals and lead engaging, hands-on educational experiences for campers. This role combines daily animal care with interactive teaching, helping campers connect with creation, learn responsibility, and experience the joy of farm life.
The Farm Educator will oversee the care of goats, chickens, and sheep while facilitating twice-daily camper visits to the farm. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys both working with animals and engaging with children in a fun, meaningful way.
Key Responsibilities
Animal Care & Farm Management
- Provide daily care for goats, chickens, and sheep (feeding, watering, cleaning enclosures)
- Monitor animal health and communicate concerns to leadership
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe farm spaces
- Assist with supply inventory and basic farm upkeep
Camper Education & Programming
- Lead morning and afternoon farm sessions for camper groups
- Teach campers about animal care, behavior, and agriculture in an age-appropriate, engaging way
- Guide campers in feeding and interacting safely with animals
- Create a welcoming, positive, and inclusive learning environment
Safety & Supervision
- Ensure proper hand washing and hygiene practices before and after animal interactions
- Enforce safety guidelines for both campers and animals
- Maintain a safe working environment at all times
- Partner with cabin leaders to manage group behavior and flow
Collaboration & Camp Life
- Work closely with summer staff and program leaders
- Participate in the broader camp community as needed
- Support Lutherdale’s mission and values in all interactions
Qualifications
Required:
- Interest in animal care and working with children
- Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Responsibility, flexibility, and a positive attitude
Preferred:
- Experience with farm animals (goats, chickens, sheep, or similar)
- Experience teaching, leading, or mentoring children
- Basic knowledge of animal behavior and care
