Schedule: Part-Time, Exempt position, 30 hours per week, limited to 1560 hours per calendar year.
Salary: $30 - $40/hour, benefit eligible
Serves as a limited-term heritage resources planner and directly supports the department's heritage resources work. Works directly with heritage resources staff. Primary responsibilities include research, data entry, and mapping in support of policy studies, plan amendments, development application review, and architectural survey preparation and implementation; support and preparation for outreach and community engagement; assists with 250th Commission, History Commission, and Architectural Review Board tasks and attends meetings, as needed. Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university in a historic preservation, heritage resources, or planning field.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Currently pursuing a master's degree in historic preservation, architectural history, historical architecture, planning, or closely related field. Professional experience in historic preservation or heritage resources planning. Familiarity with project and design review and the purpose and use of design guidelines in historic districts. Understanding of the role of the comprehensive plan and local historic district regulations in land use planning. Experience working in a local government planning office and supporting publicly appointed boards, authorities, and commissions. Knowledge of the Section 106 review process, and an understanding of local, state and national historic registers. Experience in researching and writing technical reports. Ability to handle multiple deadlines. Experience using word processing, database and GIS software.
SELECTION PROCEDURE:
Evaluation of relevant education and experience. Panel interview of top-rated applicants. Applicants may be asked to respond to questions in writing and/or provide samples of work. Finalist may be interviewed by the Director, Planning Division.
NOTE: Individual must be willing and able to participate in work assignments and meetings during the evening hours.
In accordance with current Fairfax County telework and personnel policies, this position is eligible for partial telework. Telework enrollment and continuance is subject to supervisor approval and County policy.
