Location: Hagerstown, MD
Type: Temporary (12 weeks), Full-Time (37.5hrs/per week), Paid
Job Summary:
The overall objective of the Staff Accountant Intern is to provide support with monthly financial procedures and review of internal controls/policies. This position requires attention to detail, excellent communication and organizational skills, and a desire to apply the fundamental principles of Accounting and Finance. The Staff Accountant Intern will receive hands-on exposure to the monthly financial cycle and review of internal controls / policies. The Staff Accountant Intern performs the essential functions of the position noted below, while meeting the quality and service standards developed by the agency.
Essential Functions:
- Prepare and post General Ledger journal entries.
- Manage the monthly fixed asset process – additions/disposals/reconciliation.
- Prepare assigned Balance Sheet Reconciliations.
- Assist with preparation of monthly financial reports.
- Prepare actual expense vs. budget follow-up reports.
- Prepare documentation for internal and external auditors.
- Support yearly review of internal controls & policies.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing, to explain policies and procedures, to receive and interpret complex information, and respond appropriately.
- Ability to understand written and oral communication and interpret abstract information.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Confident, self-starter who works well independently.
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines and multi-task.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field or at least three years of work towards a degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field.
