Job Title: Multilingual Learner Summer Camp Teacher
Classification: Non-Exempt
Reports To: Founder of Carolina Literacy Project

Responsibility:
The multilingual learner (ML) summer camp teacher will have the responsibility of accomplishing assigned duties for the academic function of the summer camp as well as contact with students and parents. The ML teacher will be expected to provide weekly lessons focused on English literacy for ML students aged 6-12 years who are at the beginning level of learning English. They will also provide tutoring guidance to volunteer tutors and interns.
Schedule: Mondays - Thursdays from 8am – 12pm for a total of six weeks June 1, 2026 – July 24, 2026, with no camp June 19 – July 5.

Qualifications/Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in education including all courses to meet credential requirements. Preferred candidate will have SC certification in ESOL. Ideal candidate will have a minimum of one year related experience teaching MLs. Candidates must successfully pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
Salary: $30 per hour
Essential Functions:
- Applies best practices and current research on instruction, instructional technology, and related research that enhances and improves instruction of MLs.
- Plans, organizes, and presents instruction and instructional environments which help multilingual learners learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their English Language Acquisition, academic skills, and social development.
- Prepares weekly lesson plans in a timely manner.
- Knowledge of various methods of teaching English to non-native speakers.
- Plan and develop effective strategies to increase student achievement by addressing individual learning differences.
- Have knowledge regarding literacy content and developmental needs of ML students in order to offer appropriate learning experiences.
- Assist in maintaining accurate program records including incident reports, logbook documentation and daily attendance.
- Maintain good classroom management.
- Carry out any other duties related to the instructional program as deemed necessary by the founder of the Carolina Literacy Project.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, colleagues, and the founder.
- Provide a safe, student-centered environment that is educationally stimulating and respectful.
- Maintain a professional manner.
- Ability to work well with others and accept individual differences among children.
- Good physical and mental health.
- Know and understand all emergency procedures associated with the camp program.
- Know, enforce, and follow all safety guidelines associated with the camp and all program areas, including but not limited to being responsible for the campers’ safety and whereabouts at all times.
- Ability to handle unforeseen situations.
Responsibilities:
- Planning of weekly lessons
- Supervising/monitoring students during camp
- Clarifying the goals of instruction for students and set objectives for each student
- Present new content in a stimulating manner at the appropriate rate and level of difficulty
- Manage classroom time in a way to ensure success in goals
- Maintain confidentiality of students
- Assist with discipline procedures for student behavior
- Maintain individual records for each student
- Guide students in developing positive relationships with peers and adults
- Organize instruction to provide a structured environment for learning
- Mentor education interns
