Junior Lab Engineer

Junior Lab Engineer – Network Technology
Location: Englewood, CO (4 days onsite, 1 day remote)
Contract: 12-month contract with potential extension or conversion
Pay Range: $30–40/hr

About the Role
We are seeking a Junior Lab Engineer to join an advanced R&D lab environment focused on next-generation network and communication technologies. This role is ideal for early‑career engineers with a strong foundation in electrical engineering, signal processing, RF systems, or applied computer science who are excited to work on complex, ground‑up technical initiatives.

In this role, you’ll contribute to foundational research and development efforts aimed at analyzing large-scale network behavior through data and optimizing RF spectrum usage within wired network environments. You’ll work closely with senior engineers and other lab engineers in a highly exploratory setting where experimentation, analysis, and technical curiosity are central.

Primary Project Areas

Network Topology Analysis and Modeling
• Contribute to ongoing R&D work analyzing large‑scale network topology using data grounded in electrical engineering, physics, and signal behavior.
• Study how real‑world system behavior is reflected in network data and identify meaningful features that improve modeling accuracy.
• Validate data quality and assumptions before scaling solutions or introducing advanced automation.
• Support early pipeline design and experimentation frameworks in preparation for future AI/ML applications.
• Current work is foundational and pre‑AI, focused on building a reliable, physics‑informed understanding before advanced modeling.

RF Spectrum Optimization
• Support development of internally built solutions focused on optimizing RF spectrum usage within coaxial or similar wired network environments.
• Analyze upstream and downstream RF channel placement to identify inefficiencies and technical limitations.
• Apply data analysis and early machine learning techniques to evaluate viable spectrum capacity and recommend improved configurations.
• Design solutions within strict operational constraints to ensure service stability and reliability.
• Work on complex, unsolved engineering challenges without off‑the‑shelf solutions, requiring first‑principles thinking.

Key Responsibilities
• Conduct lab‑based experimentation and analysis related to RF signals, spectrum behavior, and network infrastructure.
• Analyze signal data, including magnitude, phase, frequency behavior, and propagation characteristics.
• Support development of data analysis pipelines and experimental workflows.
• Collaborate with engineers across R&D, testing, and technical teams.
• Document technical findings and communicate insights to engineering leadership.
• Learn and apply new tools, methodologies, and measurement techniques in a fast‑paced R&D environment.

Required / Preferred Background
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering strongly preferred
– Computer Science or related technical degree considered if paired with strong EE fundamentals

• Academic or hands‑on exposure to:
– Signals and signal propagation
– Digital Signal Processing (DSP)
– RF systems or microwave theory
– Wireless or cellular signal propagation
– Coaxial or physical layer cable systems

• Comfort working with complex, physics‑driven problems
• Strong analytical thinking, curiosity, and willingness to experiment
• Coursework or projects involving electromagnetic theory or Maxwell’s equations

Bonus Experience (Not Required)
• Amateur (ham) radio experience
• RF testing or lab environments
• Exposure to cable or broadband network architectures
• Early experience with machine learning, data analysis, or applied statistics

Why This Role
• Exposure to advanced R&D work early in your engineering career
• Opportunity to work on systems that do not yet exist in industry
• Hands-on experience across RF, signal processing, data analysis, and future AI applications
• Close collaboration with senior engineers and strong technical mentorship
• Clear visibility and career development support through a structured early‑career program
