Hiring Range: 20.03 / hour (Part-time)

This position will support DEQ’s mission to protect and enhance the waters of the Commonwealth by collecting water samples and field data.
RESPONSIBILITIES
This position will use collected samples and field data to ensure the protection of State waters by collecting water quality and sediment samples, observing ambient conditions, and recording field data in accordance with established Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) methods and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) in order to provide valid data for water quality management decisions.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge and experience in field water sampling, general lab and field safety, water safety, and watercraft operation and navigation on rivers, lakes, and estuaries.
- Computer skills including word processing and spreadsheets. Database management and GIS are preferred.
- Completion of college coursework in aquatic biology, chemistry, ecology, engineering, environmental science, hydrology, and geology or related sciences.
- Ability to work in adverse outdoor conditions and ability to lift 50 lbs.
- Experience which would demonstrate the above knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Experience trailering and operating power boats and small watercraft, VA DWR boater operator safety certificate or equivalent.
- This position may require you to operate a state owned or leased vehicle. Therefore, a valid driver's license is required.
