PCB (Printed Circuit Board) Design & Embedded Systems Focus

HackMakeMod is seeking a well-rounded PCB (printed circuit board) Design, Embedded Systems, or Robotics student to join our team this summer. We design and produce educational DIY electronics kits and engaging content for makers, educators, and hobbyists through our e-commerce store and social media channels. Our mission is to make hands-on learning accessible, fun, and impactful.

Intern Role: PCB Design/ Embedded Systems Engineering Intern

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the design and prototyping of interactive electronics kits, with a focus on mechanical components, housing, and assembly design

     
  • Work on integrating mechanical parts (like motors, gears, mounts, and sensors) with electronic circuits and microcontrollers to create functional, user-friendly projects

     
  • Support kit production through tasks such as soldering, 3D printing, basic wiring, and component testing

     
  • Contribute to PCB layout and design for custom boards used in kits (with guidance from the engineering team)

     
  • Help create build guides, visuals, and tutorial content for use on our website and YouTube channel

     
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions and give feedback on kit usability and presentation

     
  • Assist with iterative testing and refinement of mechanical and electronic designs

     

Requirements:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Robotics, or a related field

     
  • Comfortable with hands-on work involving tools, electronics assembly, and mechanical components

     
  • Familiar with Arduino or other microcontroller platforms and how they interact with physical systems

     
  • Experience or coursework in PCB design (e.g., EasyEDA or similar tools) is required

     
  • Experience with 3D printing, CAD, or mechanical prototyping is a plus

     
  • Strong attention to detail and communication skills

     
  • Enjoys building things, solving problems, and learning new tools and techniques
