Museum Visitors Service

During your internship you will be moving around different areas of the customer service of the museum:

Attention to the visitors of the Museum:

  • Receive and welcome visitors.
  • Provide general information about the museum and its exhibitions.
  • Assist visitors in their questions and needs.
  • Guide visitors inside the museum.

The Ticket Sales:

  • Manage the ticket sales at the museum’s ticket office.
  • Manage the collection system and record transactions.
  • Provide information on rates, schedules and promotions.

Delivery of Merchandising:

  • Manage the sale of products from the souvenir shop.
  • Suggest products to visitors and make additional sales.
  • Maintain store inventory and replenish products when needed.
  • Ensure that products are well presented and accessible.

Cultural Outreach:

  • Provide detailed and accurate information about the history and cultural significance of exhibitions.
  • To make presentations and educational talks for groups of visitors.
  • Create and distribute educational and promotional materials about the museum’s exhibitions and events.

Guide to the Historic Ship:

  • Conduct guided tours of the historic ship, highlighting important aspects and points of interest.
  • Explain the history of the ship, its construction, its historical use and its cultural relevance.
  • Answer specific questions about the boat and its history.
  • Ensure that visitors understand and appreciate the importance of the boat in the historical context.

Skills and Competencies Required

  • Excellent communication skills: Ability to speak in public and share information in a clear and attractive manner.
  • Cultural and historical knowledge: Deep knowledge about the history of the museum and the ship, as well as the ability to convey this information in an accessible way.
  • Sales and customer service skills: Sales experience and ability to serve and assist visitors in an effective and friendly manner.
  • Organization and time management: Ability to manage multiple tasks and ensure that the museum activities run smoothly.
  • Languages: Knowledge of several languages can be an advantage to cater for international tourists.
  • Empathy and patience: Ability to interact with a variety of visitors and handle difficult situations calmly and professionally.

These functions require a combination of interpersonal skills, in-depth knowledge of the historical and cultural content of the museum and the ship, and the ability to manage operational and commercial aspects of the museum.

On-site Supervision and Support

Our internships include 24/7 on-site staff to support students working and living abroad. All students will also report to a supervisor at their internship site. Supervisors provide and oversee daily tasks, introduce the intern to team members, and mentor the intern in organizational agility, skill acquisition, and career readiness. Interns complete a midpoint and final evaluation, and supervisors complete a final evaluation of their interns. All work responsibilities and projects are approved in advance. 

Academic Credit

Students on an internship have the opportunity to enroll in their home university for credit, or enroll in a course through API to transfer back to their university for credit. Email support-internships@apiexperience.com for more information and a syllabus.
