Founding Marketing Intern

Marketing Intern — Fortis (Fitness App)

Paid · Part-time · Remote (NYC area a plus) · College students

About Fortis

Fortis is a social workout app geared toward strength training. It brings lifters together, analyzes their workouts, and helps them set goals and discover new training programs — with flexibility built in and a lot more on the roadmap. It runs on a freemium model, with the paid plan launching soon.
 

We have a strong product and a growing base of engaged users, but marketing is still early, which means there’s a lot of room to shape it. This is a chance to build a brand's image audience from the ground up and have a real hand in how the company grows.

The Role

You'll work directly with the founder to grow Fortis's audience and own initiatives end-to-end. This involves running experiments, talking to users and creators, and shaping strategy based on experience and what you learn along the way.
 

Responsibilities span:

  • Outreach — finding and connecting with fitness creators and micro-influencers (powerlifting, hypertrophy, athletes) to feature Fortis and build partnerships.
  • Content creation — drafting content for social and program pages, defining the brand's voice, and curating a clear, cohesive brand image. This includes shooting videos, creating posts (Instagram, TikTok), interacting with comments, and tracking analytics.
  • Market research — understanding our users and the competitive landscape, bringing back insights that shape strategy, and analyzing competitor social media to help differentiate Fortis.
  • Social media strategy — Deciding which channels are worth being on and how Fortis should show up, then helping build them from scratch. This involves setting goals for growth, creating a plan for consistent content output tailored to various platforms, and building anticipation for the launch of our new update.

 

We'll focus on the highest-impact work first and go deep, rather than spreading thin across everything at once.

What We're Looking For

Required:

  • Currently enrolled college student
  • Self-directed and comfortable with ambiguity
  • Strong written communication
  • Interested in building a brand from the ground up

 

Preferred (but not required):

  • Experience or coursework in marketing, especially for consumer (B2C) apps
  • Familiarity with fitness, working out, or competitive athletics — a plus if you lift and know the communities firsthand
  • A sense of what makes fitness brands resonate with serious athletes

Logistics

  • Pay: $15/hr for fully remote work. NYC-area candidates who may meet in person or support local outreach will be paid $17–18/hr, depending on experience. 
  • Hours: Up to 10 hours per week, part-time and flexible around classes. 
  • Location: Remote, with the option to meet in person roughly once a month for NYC-area candidates. 
  • Structure: You’ll work directly with the founder, with real ownership, mentorship, and room to shape the role.
