Construction Accounting Intern

The Accounting Intern supports the finance and accounting team with project-related financial tasks. Working under the guidance of the Branch Controller and senior accounting staff, this role provides hands-on experience in construction accounting processes, including billing, data entry, and financial tracking for active projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in creating and maintaining job files, ensuring all project documentation is accurately organized and stored.
  • Support data entry of job-related information into accounting systems (e.g., Spectrum) with a high level of accuracy.
  • Help scan, upload, and organize documents such as contracts, job sheets, insurance certificates, and correspondence.
  • Assist in preparing and tracking contract documentation, including Certificates of Insurance (COIs), bonds, and related paperwork.
  • Provide general support to the Controller and Operations team on project financial tasks.
  • Aid in the preparation of monthly AIA and Time & Material (T&M) billings.
  • Assist with billing processes in external platforms such as Textura, Procore, or similar systems.
  • Support the collection and processing of lien waivers and insurance documentation.
  • Work with Project Managers to help track schedules of values, change orders, and progress billings.
  • Assist in generating reports and maintaining accurate financial records for assigned projects.
  • Help with weekly timecard review and entry to support payroll processing.
  • Support accounts receivable activities, including organizing records and tracking outstanding invoices.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure smooth project accounting operations.

Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of accounting principles; coursework in project or construction accounting is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Familiarity with accounting or construction management software (e.g., Spectrum, Procore) is a plus but not required.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

 

Start Date:  Spring 2027/ Summer 2027

 

Salary:  $15.00 to $20.00/hour

 

Location: DC, DE, MD, MI, NJ, NY, OH, PA
