About Ineffable Films
Ineffable Films is a nonprofit on a mission to open the film industry to emerging and underserved storytellers. We do it through mentorship, festival access, hands-on education, and community screenings, with work that stretches from San Diego to New York to Boston to a creative partnership in Bandung, Indonesia. Stories are at the center of everything we make, and we believe what people wear is part of how a story gets told.

The Role
We are looking for a Fashion & Costume Design Intern to work across two creative fronts. First, you'll help bring characters to life by supporting wardrobe and costume on the films and projects we support. Second, you'll help us launch something new: an Ineffable Films apparel line built from upcycled and repurposed materials, designed and sold under our brand to support our mission. This is a rare chance to be a founding creative voice on a clothing line from day one, while also building your costume design experience on real film projects. Alongside that, you'll be part of a community of filmmakers and makers where you can sharpen your craft, get feedback, and collaborate.

What you'll do

  • Design original apparel pieces from upcycled and repurposed materials
  • Help shape the look and identity of the Ineffable Films clothing line
  • Support wardrobe and costume design on the films and projects we support
  • Contribute to how our merch is styled, photographed, and presented
  • Collaborate with our creative and marketing leads on brand and direction
  • Engage in the community, sharing your process and supporting other makers

What you'll walk away with

  • A founding role in building a real apparel brand from the ground up
  • Costume and design credits from a mission-driven film nonprofit
  • A portfolio of original, sustainable, story-driven designs
  • Mentorship and feedback from our creative team and community
  • A flexible, remote-friendly schedule that fits around your classes

Who we're looking for

  • A designer with a strong point of view on style, texture, and storytelling
  • A love of upcycling, sustainable fashion, and making something from nothing
  • Some experience sewing, altering, constructing, or designing garments
  • Reliability, self-direction, and excitement for film and culture
  • Bonus: access to your own sewing setup, materials, or thrift and upcycling sources
  • No degree required. We care about your eye and your work, not your resume

How to apply
Join our online community and introduce yourself and your work and why this mission excites you, along with a portfolio or a few samples of your designs. Please upload a photo and put "Fashion / Costume" along with some info about your creative goals in your bio!

One thing worth knowing about the community: it's yours whether or not you end up interning with us. Even if interning isn't the right fit down the line, you'll have a space to get free support from professional filmmakers and creatives on whatever projects you're working on, plus connect with other makers along the way.

In the meantime, feel free to dive into our Open Hours, our live Q&A sessions with industry professionals that you can access right inside the community. ~Menefese Founder & CEO
