College Intern - Network and Infrastructure

Summary

Phoenix-based SRP is recruiting for a College Intern - High Security Operations Center. This position will be part of the High Security Operations Center (HSOC) team and will assist with supporting a new "greenfield" datacenter and secure network to connect our generation fleet and power systems.

 

As a network intern, you will work closely with a team of senior network engineers to learn how a small secure datacenter works, how power systems at SRP work (generation, transmission, and distribution of power), and what planning for the future of critical infrastructure security will look like. Your role will be focused on learning about networking and completing tasks to support the team. Your experience will be varied between exposing you to new technologies and supporting the team through documentation of the system.

The student intern will work daily scheduled hours based on the department’s needs, with a minimum requirement of 15 hours and up to 40 hours per week maximum.

 

What You'll Do

  • Work with team members in a support role to perform various tasks such as cable organization, asset management, and preparing a service management infrastructure to support other groups at SRP.
  • Draft procedures and documentation related to the network and supporting internal customers.
  • Support staff during install and configuration of network hardware, including firewalls, Cisco switching, virtual server infrastructure, backup and remote access solutions.
  • Demonstrates the ability to quickly learn and adapt in a dynamic, evolving environment.
  • Some travel between facilities will be required. Main office/datacenter is in South Scottsdale.

 

Education

A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent is required.

 

Additional Requirements and Qualifications

Preferred Knowledge and Skills:

  • Understanding of/experience with enterprise network concepts (firewalls, switching, routing)
  • Knowledge of virtual server infrastructure and concepts
  • Certifications or certification prep in appropriate areas will be considered (CCNA, VMWare, Palo Alto, etc.)

 

Required:

  • Must have driver's license and ability to travel between valley locations

The Student Intern Program requires participants to work a minimum of 15 hours per week and up to a maximum of 40 hours per week. Scheduled hours may vary based on departmental needs and hiring manager’s discretion, provided hours worked remain within the 15–40 hour weekly range.

College level coursework (100 or higher) from an accredited institution is preferred. Management will evaluate college-level coursework individually to determine if it is applicable to the position and relevant to the required skills. Knowledge such as accounting, general administrative principles, communications, marketing, personnel, finance, training, business and other non-scientific fields.

 

Hybrid Workplace

SRP currently offers a hybrid workplace, which allows employees whose jobs can be performed remotely, and who have sufficient technical capability, to telework up to three days per week. Although teleworking is available, all employees must live and work in Arizona.
