Activity Host
The Activity Host plays a key role in ensuring events at the Grand Ledge Opera House run smoothly and professionally. Activity Hosts support clients during setup, assist throughout the event, and help close out the venue at the end of their shift. This is a hands-on, guest-facing role ideal for students interested in event management, hospitality, or customer service.
Scheduling is event-based and includes evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays, depending on the event calendar.
What You’ll Do
Pre-Event Preparation
- Unlock the facility and turn on required lighting
- Review the client’s floor plan and confirm the setup matches specifications
- Complete a walkthrough to ensure the venue is clean and guest-ready
- Restock bathrooms and kitchen areas
- Set up additional furniture as needed
- Clear entryways and walkways and remove any litter
- Place event signage in designated locations
During the Event
- Assist clients with setup, décor placement, and logistical questions
- Provide friendly, professional support to guests
- Respond calmly to on-site emergencies following venue protocols
- Monitor trash receptacles and manage disposal
- Replenish bathroom supplies as needed
- Accommodate client-requested changes to the floor plan
- Monitor the grounds for unauthorized individuals and address situations appropriately
- Maintain overall cleanliness and order throughout the venue
Post-Event Closeout
- Assist clients with teardown and packing of décor
- Collect and dispose of all trash
- Ensure all areas are clean and free of debris
- Turn off lighting and equipment
- Inspect the venue for damage and report findings
- Secure and lock the facility

Qualifications
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Comfortable working directly with clients and guests
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment
- Physical ability to lift and move furniture (up to 50 lbs)
- Dependable, punctual, and detail-oriented
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Prior experience in hospitality, customer service, or event support is helpful but not required
- Ability to successfully pass a background check as a condition of employment
